Some very last minute upbeat ratings news for Fox’s X Factor. The struggling competition show’s finale episode crowning duo Alex & Sierra posted the show’s strongest Thursday rating in two months, jumping 42 percent from last week. In its last gasp of the season, Factor also finally managed to beat an NBC singing competition show — topping last night’s The Sing-Off, which slipped to a season low.

Naturally, however, the show continued its overall trend of being down significantly compared to last fall — off 45 percent from its season two finale. And the bump wasn’t enough for Factor win the night, however. X Factor was beaten by CBS’ Big Bang Theory repeat and tied a few other programs for second place in the demo, including ABC’s A Charlie Brown Christmas, NBC’s SNL Christmas special and a repeat of CBS’ The Millers.

The X Factor is on the bubble for a fourth season renewal, but odds have been stronger recently, and the buzz around Alex & Sierra certainly helps make the show feel a bit more relevant. Ratings rising for this finale could help too. Full chart:
