It’s The Social Network: On Television.

Lionsgate TV announced today that the company has acquired the rights to the book Hatching Twitter: A True Story of Money, Power, Friendship, and Betrayal by Nick Bilton about the founding of Twitter. Bilton, a columnist and reporter for the New York Times, will write the screenplay and serve as producer. (Intrigued? The book was excerpted in the New York Times in Oct.)

Much like The Social Network did for Facebook, Hatching Twitter “presents a fascinating behind-the-scenes account of the creation of the social media service by four friends and its evolution into a juggernaut that changed the world. Bilton sheds light on the relationships, battles, power grabs and betrayals along the way,” according to the press release.

While it’ll be interesting to see how that drama plays out via a television program, which has seasons and continuing stories to contend with — as opposed to a feature film — interested fans can begin to brainstorm something much more important: Which hashtags to use to describe the announcement.
