Fred Armisen returning to 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine'
Fred Armisen is coming back to the precinct.
The former Saturday Night Live star is set to return to Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine, marking his first appearance on the show since his buzzy cameo in the pilot. And he’s not just in any BN-N episode, but landing in the comedy’s huge post-Super Bowl slot.
Re-joining fellow ex-SNL castmate Andy Samberg on the series, Armisen plays “Melipnos,” his oddball character from the premiere. Amy (Melissa Fumero) and Jake (Samberg) have another strange encounter with Melipnos while tracking down a suspect.
Also since no post-Bowl show is complete without a sports legend cameo, we can also reveal that former NFL great Joe Theismann is also appearing in the episode, playing himself. We’re told Theismann has a “physical encounter” with Jake.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is coming off its Golden Globes nomination for best comedy series. New Girl will join Brooklyn after Fox’s Super Bowl coverage on Feb. 2 and there’s unconfirmed widespread reports that Prince will guest star. Starting Feb. 4, Brooklyn will shift to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday nights with a New Girl lead-in.
