SPOILER ALERT. Details and terribly tragic screengrabs ahead!
Nashville loves itself a crazy cliffhanger, and we knew that on tonight’s midseason finale, “Tomorrow Never Comes” (full recap here), it’d be goodbye forever to one character. I can now tell y’all that this person is….
….either Will Lexington or Peggy Kenter.
(I do realize how sick it is that I wrote that up as if announcing who just got eliminated on a reality show.)
Country music’s next big Booze ‘n’ Bonin’ specialist, Will Lexington (Chris Carmack), is full of shame and regret after sleeping with that suit with great hair, Brent, instead of his current show pony, Layla. At episode’s end, he’s standing in the middle of the railroad tracks as a train thunders his way.
What if I was willin’…. to take my own life?
Meanwhile, Peggy (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) got caught in the crossfire as Teddy wrestled a gun from a hitman (perhaps hired by Rayna’s father Lamar?) who tried to shoot him in the back. She’s sprawled out on the ground, seemingly lifeless, as Teddy rushes first to Rayna’s car window. I think we can all agree that the important plot point here is that Rayna James is okay!
The somewhat-camouflaged ABC snowflake is a lovely touch, don’t you think?
So which one died: Will or Peggy?
Will is not the greatest thing since black cowboy hats, but Peggy, a.k.a. Pork Blood, has been reviled by the Nashville-viewing community pretty much ever since she first appeared on-screen. It’s fun to hate her, though, because she’s just so tertiary and pointless most of the time, and then all of a sudden, BOOM: fakes her own miscarriage using animal blood. Was that a good idea, by the way? Perhaps for the last time….
Say it ain’t so, y’all! How will we go on without the weekly use of this beautiful graphic?
My official guess is that Peggy’s dead. Will is suffering a crisis, but Peggy’s character is a crisis. There’s no contest.
Stay tuned for my full episode recap…. Update: Here it is!
