A few weeks ago, we tipped you off to a nifty short film from Broken Bells (Shins leader James Mercer and producer Danger Mouse) titled “Part One: Angel and the Fool,” starring Kate Mara and Anton Yelchin. It was a trippy good time — and now you can watch the second installment, available exclusively here.

Titled “Holding On For Life,” the new video was, like the first one, directed by Jacob Gentry and made in conjunction with The Creators Project, with Mara and Yelchin once again leading the way. It features music from the upcoming Broken Bells album, also titled After the Disco, due out January 14 of next year.

Take a look at it below:

So how did all this come together? Director Gentry clued us in on all that.

“The last video we had done for [2010’s] ‘The Ghost Inside’ was more like a narrative short film done in a similar way, so we thought this could be a spiritual sequel,” he says. ” But we wanted this to be more fantastical, psychedelic — like Logan’s Run and Barbarella — but still live in the Broken Bells universe. The vision for it is really a collaboration between Brian [Burton, aka Danger Mouse], James, the designer Jacob Escebedo, and myself coming together and vibing out on images and ideas that inspire the album and vice versa.”

As for getting the stars: “We reached out to Anton first who dug the concept and agreed to do it. Then Kate came on board shortly thereafter. We were really lucky to have such amazing actors for this. Having such thoughtful, talented actors made my job a lot easier. It allowed me to put more focus on the relationship and the characters.”
