'30 Rock' star Maulik Pancholy comes out
- TV Show
Liz Lemon would be so proud!
30 Rock and Weeds actor Maulik Pancholy has officially come out of the closet. What’s even better is that the actor, best known for playing Alec Baldwin’s obsessively stressed-out assistant Jonathan on the beloved NBC sitcom, just celebrated nine years together with his longtime partner.
“It feels like a nice time to be celebrating something like that, especially on the heels of the DOMA and Prop 8 decisions,” the actor told OUT magazine as a member of this year’s OUT 100 list. Other notable out and proud celebs on the list include Orange Is the New Black stars Laverne Cox and Lea Delaria, Sir Ian McKellan, George Takei, Mo Rocca, and Tony winner Billy Porter.
Pancholy got his first big break as Sanjay, a pot dealer on Weeds, but he is also an accomplished voice artist, currently providing the voices of Baljeet Tjinder on Phineas and Ferb and as a very different Sanjay, a boy with a talking snake for a best friend, in the new Nickelodeon animated series Sanjay and Craig. 30 Rock ended its run in January after multiple Emmys and seven seasons.
