Syfy casts pair for '12 Monkeys' pilot
Syfy’s 12 Monkeys has filled its two leading roles: Aaron Stanford (Nikita) and Amanda Schull (Suits, Pretty Little Liars) have been cast in the 60-minute pilot.
Offscreen, Natalie Chaidez (In Plain Sight, Heroes) will serve as executive producer/showrunner. Jeffrey Reiner (Helix, Friday Night Lights) is set to direct the pilot in addition to serving as executive producer. Universal Cable Productions and Atlas Entertainment will produce.
The show is based on Terry Gilliam’s 1995 film Twelve Monkeys, in which a man living in a post-apocalyptic world travels back in time to determine and stop the source of a virus that will obliterate humankind. Bruce Willis, Madeleine Stowe, and Brad Pitt starred in the sci-fi thriller.
Stanford will play Cole, “a desperate and haunted man from the near future, who travels to the present day to stop a deadly plague from being released on the world,” according to the press release. Schull will play Cassandra Railly, “a brilliant doctor who is forced to choose between her idyllic life or joining Cole’s mission to uncover the dangerous conspiracy.”
