How to Make It in America’s Victor Rasuk, 29, has joined the cast of Fifty Shades of Grey to play the part of José Rodriguez, a classmate and friend of Anastasia Steele, EW confirmed Thursday.

If we’re talking Twilight, José is sort of the Jacob to Christian Grey’s Edward. Poor fellow.

Deadline first reported the news of Rasuk’s casting in director Sam Taylor-Johnson’s big screen adaptation of E L James’ racy novel, which stars Dakota Johnson as Anastasia, and Luke Grimes as Elliot Grey. Jamie Dornan has also reportedly been cast as Christian, but Universal and Focus still have yet to issue an official statement on the matter.

Rasuk broke out as the lead of Peter Sollett’s Raising Victor Vargas (2002) and then as a skateboarding pioneer in Catherine Hardwicke’s Lords of Dogtown (2005). Beyond his role as Cam in HBO’s short-lived How to Make It in America, Rasuk appeared recently in Jobs as Bill Fernandez, and will be starring alongside Sam Taylor-Johnson’s husband, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, in Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla, out May 16, 2014.
