Mike Tyson's advice to Chris Brown: 'Get it together' -- AUDIO
Mike Tyson is worried Chris Brown is about to knock himself out of a decent music career and into the slammer. The former heavyweight boxing champion has a few pointers for the embattled R&B singer, but these aren’t fighting words; they’re words of advice.
“I like and admire that little guy, but really what he needs to understand is that eventually, if you keep doing that stuff, man, people [will] turn on you,” Tyson said on 95.5 WPLJ’s radio show Scott and Todd in the Morning on Tuesday.
Brown was arrested Sunday after allegedly punching a man who tried to take a picture with him. Though his assault charge was reduced to a misdemeanor, he’s still on probation for assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009. Tyson is no stranger to a violent past: He was convicted of rape and was arrested dozens of times as an adolescent.
Though Tyson was a celebrated boxer, his anger issues and controversial rap sheet cost him his reputation: “No one didn’t want anything to have to do with you, not because I didn’t sell things out, but they just didn’t want that stigma, you know — you have a Mike Tyson fight, some people might get killed, the casinos might get robbed, and it’s just that stuff that came with you,” he said.
“I’m just worried about him, ’cause he’s really a sweet kid and he’s probably just going through some overbearing pressures,” he added.
Tyson thinks Brown is on the fast track to getting locked up: “If he keeps getting these violent cases, he’s arrested for this violent assault here, assault here, they’re gonna put him somewhere where that’s all they do is assault people.”
The DJ pointed out that in prison Brown can’t have his trusty bodyguards. “Man, that’s going to be a neat trick, right?” said Tyson. “Man, he gotta get it together.”
After dispensing his advice, Tyson caught himself in a surreal moment: “I can’t even believe I’m saying this because I got it together — I’m trying to work on getting it together.” We can’t believe it either.
