Ed Burns to write-direct-star in TNT crime drama pilot
TNT has given a pilot order to a new crime drama project from Ed Burns — and by “from Ed Burns,” we mean from Ed Burns in just about every major respect.
The cable network has ordered Public Morals, which Burns is writing and producing and directing and starring in.
The logline: “New York City, 1967. In the Public Morals Division, cops walk the line between morality and criminality as the temptations that comes from dealing with all kinds of vice can get the better of them. Cop Terry Muldoon (Burns) knows the line between the good guys and bad guys is thin, and he is determined to raise his sons to be honest and hardworking as he deals with the dark underbelly of the vice world.” Other executive producers on the project: Steven Spielberg, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey and Aaron Lubin.
But you don’t have to wait for Public Morals to see the Saving Private Ryan actor in a vintage crime show. Burns is playing one of the bad guys in Frank Darabont’s upcoming Mob City on TNT, as legendary mobster Ben “Bugsy” Siegel.
