Fleetwood Mac cancel tour as John McVie battles cancer
Fleetwood Mac were set to play 14 dates in Australia and New Zealand in November, but the band announced on their Facebook page early Sunday that, due to health issues, the tour has been canceled. Bass guitarist John McVie is battling cancer and is undergoing treatment during the tour dates.
“We are sorry to not be able to play these Australian and New Zealand dates,” the band said in a statement. “We hope our Australian and New Zealand fans as well as Fleetwood Mac fans everywhere will join us in wishing John and his family all the best.”
The Facebook statement refers to McVie as “one of the co founding and original members of Fleetwood Mac,” though he replaced temporary bassist Bob Brunning shortly after the band’s formation in 1967.
