2013 American Music Awards nominations: Macklemore and Ryan Lewis lead the pack
This time last year, America was suffering from Bieber Fever, Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” was still stuck in our heads, and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ new single “Thrift Shop” was a fringe novelty dipping in and out of the Hot 100.
Oh, how much has changed: the 2013 American Music Awards announced its list of nominations today, including six for M&RL — making them this year’s leader.
The Seattle rap duo will be going against the likes of Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift, and Bruno Mars for Artist of the Year. They’re also up for New Artist of the Year, Single of the Year (“Thrift Shop,” naturally), Favorite Band/Duo/Group (Pop/Rock), and Favorite Artist (Rap/Hip-Hop).
Tailing them is Timberlake and Swift, who are each up for five awards; Rihanna, Florida Georgia Line, and Robin Thicke, with four nods each; and Bruno Mars and Imagine Dragons, nominated thrice apiece.
Also returning is that EDM category that debuted last year. David Guetta won it then, but this year it’ll be a race between Daft Punk, Zedd, Avicii, and Calvin Harris, who was also nominated last year.
But wait, there’s more: Miley Cyrus and Imagine Dragons are scheduled to perform at the ceremony, which will broadcast live from L.A. on Nov. 24. Everyone’s loves some live Miley, right?
At any rate, read on for the full list of this year’s nominees below:
