Whether you recognize the name Cassadee Pope from her one-time band, Hey Monday, or as the season 3 winner of The Voice, you’re about to get the opportunity to know her a lot better. On Oct. 4, CMT will premiere Cassadee Pope: Frame by Frame, a six-part docuseries that follows the Voice winner’s journey from reality-TV hit to full-time singer-songwriter, and we’ve got an exclusive first look at the show.

“I was actually approached by CMT about it, and I have to admit, at first I didn’t want people to think that I just do reality shows now,” Pope says. “And then the more we got to talking about it the more I realized it wasn’t going to be like your everyday reality show. It’s raw, and it’s gritty, and it’s not super polished.”

In terms of a timeline, Team Blake’s Pope won The Voice in December of 2012, and the docuseries started filming the following March when she was wrapping up her first album, which is also titled Frame By Frame and will be available Oct. 8. The series kicks off during Pope’s radio tour and concludes after she finishes shooting her first music video, totaling about three months of her post-Voice life.

“I didn’t expect the amount of stress, because I had never done a radio tour before, and I didn’t know how it was going to go. I didn’t know it was going to be so grueling, and it was definitely the hardest, most stressful thing I’ve ever done, because you’re visiting sometimes four stations a day and different cities, and you’re waking up at 4 a.m. and not going to bed until midnight,” Pope says. “So those times were hard, and then on top of everything, I had a camera crew with me, so that just added to the hectic-ness, and it was hard to get used to, but after a while, it became second nature to me.”

While the show mostly follows Pope’s overall journey as an artist, fans can expect to hear some new music during the episodes. Specifically, Pope says fans can anticipate a lot of acoustic renditions of new songs: “I’m playing sets every time I’m at a radio station, so you’re hearing a lot of the songs acoustic, and every time I’m playing the song acoustic, it says the name of it at the bottom. So it’s not a lot of studio time, but it’s a lot of playing the songs acoustic for radio stations.”

But at the end of the day, Pope thinks the show is going to provide great insight into what artists go through after winning a reality TV show. And it probably isn’t what you expect.

“I think I’m just excited for people to see how it works. People don’t really understand how you get your song on the radio, and how hard it is to come off a show like The Voice and really have to prove yourself. It’s such a great platform, but it’s almost harder because people want you to exceed their expectations. I think a lot of people think you come off a show like that and everything comes easy, and it’s actually harder.”

And as a bonus, the show will allow Pope’s fans to “completely know the kind of person I am,” she says.
