Mindy Kaling joined us for a Google hangout: Here's what you missed
At noon ET today, The Mindy Project‘s Mindy Kaling joined EW’s Laura Hertzfeld for a Google hangout to talk all about season 2 of the comedy. Luckily for those involved, 30 Rock writer-turned-Mindy staffer (and recent Emmy winner) Tracey Wigfield joined the fun as well. The co-workers reminisced about Wigfield’s guest appearance on last season of Mindy, revealed how they met (Twitter love!), and played one round of shag-marry-kill with B.J. Novak, James Franco, and Seth Rogen. And that all happened in the last 10 minutes.
So just in case you missed it, here’s a quick rundown of some of the highlights from the entire half-hour hangout:
+ Kaling is currently working on a book of essays! When it will be done, she’s not sure.
+ Mindy’s dating life is not about to slow down anytime soon. Also, the guest-star roster this season is looking rather impressive: Ben Feldman, Timothy Olyphant, and Larenz Tate are among the many “fun guys coming up.”
+ Happy Endings‘ Adam Pally is coming on the show as a co-worker of Mindy’s, and more importantly, an MMA enthusiast.
+ While Mindy and Danny have yet to lock lips onscreen, they did have a practice run on set. The result? “I wish it had been better,” Kaling says. “It was bad for him, fine for me. Chris Messina has perfect lips.” Also, Kaling teases of the show, “Maybe there will be one coming up, who knows?”
+ Kaling has a long list of dream guest stars, starting with Danny McBride. “I am obsessed with Danny McBride. I drive by a billboard for Eastbound and Down every day when I go to work … I think Kenny Powers is the funniest character on television right now,” Kaling says. So who would she have him play? Well, one idea the writers have thrown around is that Mindy “needs a gay friend.”
+ Other dream guest stars include: Reese Witherspoon, Anne Hathaway, Idris Elba, Kerry Washington, Lena Dunham, Adam Driver, Carl Reiner, and John McEnroe.
