Who was worst dressed at the Emmys?
At last night’s Emmys, there were a few looks that were memorable for all the wrong reasons.
Amanda Peet’s goth dress got a unanimous thumbs down, Connie Britton looked like a walking tapestry, Julianne Hough’s underwear was on display for all to see, and Lena Dunham came a long way, but not far enough. And then there was Paula Abdul.

Amanda Peet wore a black sheer and lace gown with and embellished skirt from Erdem’s Fall 2013 collection. This look reminds me of the prom dress Molly Ringwald’s Pretty in Pink character makes using Iona’s hand-me-down and the thrift store frock her father buys her. Only worse.
I loved this Naeem Khan velvet column dress when I saw it on the runway, but on Connie Britton it looked like a repurposed Persian rug.
Let’s hope Julianne Hough’s see-through dress is the last gasp of the sheer trend, because I’m tired of seeing underwear on the red carpet. If the skirt of Hough’s Jenny Packham gown had been lined, she would have been one of my favorites.
Paula, Paula, Paula, you make it too easy. The former American Idol judge looked like she was drowning in her gold lamé turtleneck dress.
I feel a bit bad for including Lena Dunham in this group because I gave her my award for most-improved Emmys style. She looks great from the waist up — except for that green eye makeup — but the volume of the skirt is a little too Gone With the Wind. Plus, tweeting that her sister said “It’s like the Delia’s catalogue made a red carpet dress!” probably didn’t make the folks at Prada very happy.
