This Sunday night, DVRs will be more important than ever, when viewers everywhere are forced to choose between the 75-minute penultimate episode of Breaking Bad and watching Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul potentially take home trophies at the 65th Emmy Awards. So to honor both events, we’re using this Throwback Thursday to remember the 2002 Emmys, when things looked a lot different in terms of nominees. Well, a little different.

Do you all remember when Friends was the biggest Emmy snub of all-time, a.k.a. back when only Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow took home trophies for the series and the series itself only won once? Well, it just so happens that those were also the days when Cranston’s name was on the Emmy ballot, but not because he was the danger. Rather, Cranston was nominated for his comedic work on Malcolm in the Middle. Doesn’t he look young and handsome?
