Duchess Catherine made her much-anticipated return to the red carpet in London Thursday evening.

Arriving at the Tusk Conservation Awards with husband William, Kate — who welcomed son Prince George in July — showed off her svelte post-baby figure in a pale gold sequin and crystal embellished evening gown by British designer Jenny Packham, matching Jimmy Choo platform sandals, and an understated diamond bracelet, wearing her hair in her signature loose waves.

The Duchess glittered, but not everyone thought she’d struck gold with her ensemble.

“All I see here is a bunch of sequins, a droopy empire waist and an odd back panel,” wrote Catherine Kallon of the blog Red Carpet Fashion Awards. “I know the world is going gaga for this look right now, but I find myself more drawn to the tuxedo-clad William — and this is coming from the human-magpie.”
