Growing up in the 90s, I felt like there were two Hollywood hunks in the mix: You were either Team Brad Pitt or Team Tom Cruise. Of course, that doesn’t mean that there weren’t plenty of Team George Clooney’s or Team Denzel Washington’s, etc., but Brad and Tom were constantly being compared to each other and labeled as the biggest heartthrobs. But do you guys remember back before Brad and Tom, when there was one beautiful jawline that stood out above all the rest? Well, my mother does (and she likes to remind me).

Before Robert Redford was a director and even before he washed Meryl Streep’s hair in Out of Africa, he was fulfilling fantasies and breaking hearts alongside Barbra Streisand in The Way We Were. At the age of 37, his eyes were at their bluest, his hair at its fullest, and his smile at its brightest. So kids, before you write off Robert Redford, who hits theaters in All Is Lost on Oct. 18, as just another Hollywood hunk who’s now definitely out of your age bracket, take a trip down memory lane and pay some respect to this gorgeous man.

Also, let us all take a moment to honor the man who still looks this good at 77.
