MGMT released a thoroughly confusing trailer for their self-titled third LP. The trailer samples six tracks from the upcoming album while playing footage that tells a nutty story involving a possum, the NSA, and what appears to be a little girl transforming into a reptilian monster.

In a series of vignettes, the band members encounter one strange occurrence after another: Lead singer Andrew VanWyngarden is attacked by a possum in his bathroom and Benjamin Goldwasser discovers a beetle-turned-listening device in a speaker. Oh, and there’s a scale-covered monster watching the NSA, who’s watching MGMT, prompting an NSA agent to say, “The Reptoids have heard the new MGMT album.”

“They know how good it is,” the other agent replies. But who are the Reptoids? And why is the NSA watching MGMT?

Who knows? There are no answers in the trailer — the band leaves on a bus, while a little girl with snake eyes scrutinizes them — but watch below and see if you can find any clues.

The self-titled album drops Sept. 17.
