Eminem’s work has always vacillated between super-serious and turned-to-11 goofballery. His last album, the multi-platinum Recoverywas mostly the former, so it makes sense that the first single from Slim Shady’s forthcoming new album MMLP2 would focus on the latter.

“Berzerk,” which was teased during Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards, premiered last night on Eminem’s SiriusXM station Shade 45. It was produced by Rick Rubin and finds Mr. Mathers darting between old-school references, including some Beastie Boys nods and a bite of Billy Squier’s “The Stroke.”  Listen below:

“Berzerk” is available now at iTunes, while the rest of MMLP2 is due November 5.

What do you think of “Berzerk,” and how does it compare to “Survival,” another track that will be appearing on his new album? Let us know in the comments.
