• Kristen Wiig is reportedly in early talks to join Nasty Baby, a Brooklyn drama from Crystal Fairy director Sebastian Silva. The story follows a gay couple played by Silva and Tunde Adebimpe (Rachel Getting Married) who are trying to have a kid. Their friend Anna (Wiig, potentially) would carry the baby. The Bridesmaids star can be seen next in Anchorman: The Legend Continues (out Dec. 20) and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (out Dec. 25).  [The Wrap]

True Blood’s Sam Trammell has joined the cast of The Fault in Our Stars to play the part of Hazel Grace’s (Shailene Woodley) father. Based on John Green’s novel of the same name the story centers on Hazel, a terminally ill teenage cancer patient, and her relationship with Augustus Waters (Ansel Elgort), another cancer-stricken teen. Laura Dern is set to play Hazel’s mother. [The Wrap]

• Vin Diesel has his eyes set on another franchise, and has teamed up with screenwriter Arash Amel (Grace of Monaco) to try to jump-start an original sci-fi franchise based on Amel’s spec Soldiers of the Sun, about soldiers looking for gold in a post-apocalyptic world. They’re also supposed to be saving Mexico from aliens. [THR]

 Switched at Birth’s Cassi Thompson has stepped in to take a role previously occupied by Ashley Tisdale in the remake of Left Behind, starring Nicolas Cage, Chad Michael Murray, and Jordin Sparks. The movie is about the immediate aftermath of a global tragedy, and centers on Cage, who plays a pilot. Thompson will play his daughter. [Variety]
