• Miles Teller is making waves. The soulful Spectacular Now star can add another notch to his indie belt. Teller will play the lead role in Whiplash — the Sundance-winning short from writer-director Damien Chazelle (Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench) that’s getting the feature treatment. Teller will play a novice drummer in an elite jazz conservatory who is subjected to the wrath of his merciless instructor, played by J.K. Simmons (who will reprise the role that he originated in Chazelle’s short). [Deadline]

• Sam Rockwell has played some memorable parts this year, including Colin Farrell’s manic best friend in Seven Psychopaths and Owen, the Bill Murray-inspired mentor, in The Way, Way Back. Now, the versatile actor is in early talks to star in a Poltergeist remake, which Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead) would produce. Gil Kenan (Monster House) is set to direct the flick off of a script from David Lindsay-Abaire (Oz: The Great and Powerful). Rockwell has a number of projects in the bank, and will be appearing alongside Keira Knightley in Lynn Shelton’s Laggies. [The Wrap]

The Killing is done for the season and Mireille Enos is already eyeing new projects. Enos, who recently played Brad Pitt’s wife in World War Z, is in talks to star in If I Stay with Chloe Moretz, adapted from Gayle Forman’s book about 17-year-old Mia’s post-car wreck existence. • Clint Eastwood has found some more of his Jersey Boys. Jeremy Luke and Joey Russo, the duo behind Turbo and Joey, have joined Eastwood’s adaptation of the popular Broadway musical to play the parts of Donnie, a loan shark, and Joe Pesci, respectively. Christopher Walken had previously been cast to play the mobster Angelo DeCarlo. [THR]

• Ed Harris (Pollock) has joined director Michael Almereyda’s modern take on Shakespeare’s Cymbeline. Starring alongside Ethan Hawke, Harris will play King Cymbeline. [THR]

• Josh Gad (The Internship) is set to play stand-up comedian and former preacher Sam Kinison in a new biopic from Borat director Larry Charles and screenwriter Rich Wilkes (Airheads). Gad can be seen next as Steve Wozniak in Jobs which hits theaters on August 16.  [Deadline]

• Keith Carradine’s son, Cade Carradine, is set to star alongside Danny Trejo in Snap Shot, an independent thriller about a fashion photographer who is plagued by a seemingly possessed camera. [Variety]
