Dan Harmon's Adult Swim series inspired by 'Doctor Who'
- TV Show
Dan Harmon drew from many inspirations for his upcoming Adult Swim animated series Rick and Morty. Among them? A certain beloved Time Lord.
“For me, the influences are more in British sci-fi stuff that I grew up reading — like Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy also there’s a heavy dose of Doctor Who in there,” he said during the show’s panel at the Television Critics Association press tour.
Rick and Morty follows a slightly sociopathic grandfather and his less-than-intelligent grandson as they have insanely dangerous adventures across the universe.
Harmon’s moment to talk about the series came among a flood of Community-related queries today during the panel. For the record, he talked about returning to Community (again) saying, “If I had not gone back after being invited back, the worst-case scenario is 30 years of wondering what would have happened had I gone back. If I go back, worst-case scenario is one sh–ty season.”
Rick and Morty premieres in December on Adult Swim. Community returns midseason.
