CW’s upcoming drama Reign is one of the most buzzed about young adult shows of the upcoming TV season — described by some as a Gossip Girl-meets-Downton soap — and two new actors have just joined its ranks.
EW has learned exclusively that Luke Roberts, best known for his 12-season run on BBC medical drama Holby City, is set to recur on the show as Simon Westbrook, a handsome and quietly menacing English diplomat on the show, which tells the story of Mary Stuart, the woman who would eventually go on to be known as Mary, Queen of Scots. According to our casting scoop, Roberts’s character is the representative of Scotland’s greatest enemy and “is brilliant and ruthless” in his efforts to destroy main character Mary’s (Adelaide Kane) place in the royal court.
Meanwhile, EW has also learned Katie Boland, who earned her stripes as a regular on Canadian sci-fi show The Zack Files, has also scored a recurring role as Clarissa, “a strange and almost feral young woman who hides in the shadows” as her face severely disfigured. “Clarissa’s past is a tantalizing puzzle that will reach out to change the lives around her in ways no one suspects,” teases casting intel.
Reign premieres on the CW Oct. 10, following the season premiere of The Vampire Diaries.
