Tonight’s episode of Falling Skies was like none other in the series before. On the TNT series’ post-airing discussion show 2nd Watch, actors Noah Wyle (Tom), Drew Roy (Hal), and Jessy Schram (Karen) talk about the unusual episode, which 2nd Watch host Wil Wheaton calls “easily my favorite episode of the entire series to date.”

SPOILER ALERT: Don’t read on if you don’t want to find out what happened on tonight’s episode of Falling Skies, “Strange Brew.”

The journey into Tom’s subconscious, courtesy of Karen, that gave us a sense of the Masons’ life pre-invasion “felt like a completely different show,” Connor Jessup (Ben) told EW at Comic-Con this weekend. “We were clean for the first time. It was holy, it was sacred. It just felt really weird. We all knew that we wouldn’t get it again.”

Wyle calls the episode “a gamble” on 2nd Watch. “It was a big risk. It’s the first time we played with our narrative structure that way.”

In the video below, check out more discussion about “Strange Brew,” including how Karen’s subconscious is also on display in this episode, what it was like to film emotional scenes between Tom and his late wife, and how much Roy loved getting to do wardrobe fittings for the show’s first step away from a post-apocalyptic setting.

TNT’s Falling Skies airs on Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
