Vin Diesel Facebook

Because it was always inevitable that the Fast & Furious franchise would continue expanding into every corner of the action-movie universe, Fast star and inveterate social-media oversharer Vin Diesel has taken a meeting with Marvel. The star posted a picture of himself on Facebook in front of a Marvel comics poster — specifically, a poster for Avengers #2 from way back in 1963. “Marvel meeting today…” writes Diesel. “Only the people in the room can tell you what was discussed.” Diesel does take a moment to thank his fans “for pushing to make it happen… you know I get tunnel vision with my work… and after that meeting today… wow!”

When Diesel first announced his impending meeting with Marvel last week, the hot idea was that they were looking for Diesel to play — or at least voice — Thanos, the villainous Titan who appeared in the post-credits scene of Avengers 1 and might be a baddie in both the Avengers sequel and Guardians of the Galaxy. I also theorized that Diesel could be voicing Ultron in Ant-Man…and in his post Diesel uses the word “vision”…and the android Avenger named the Vision was created by Ulton…maybe? Possibly? Unlikely? Diesel himself told EW last week that he had no idea what Marvel wanted to talk to him about. (Marvel Studios didn’t comment, as is tradition.)

The fact that Diesel took a picture in front of Avengers #2 could be a hint, or it could just indicate that Marvel has a lot of Avengers #2 posters around the office. The timing is auspicious, though, with the fabled Marvel Studios panel at Comic-Con just ten days away. Back in 2010, Marvel famously surprised the crowd with an appearance by the complete cast of The Avengers, including newcomer Mark Ruffalo. Ruffalo’s deal supposedly closed just a day before that appearance — could it be that Marvel is planning another quick turnaround? The panel is sure to feature heavy Guardians of the Galaxy promotion — could it also mark the introduction of Diesel as Thanos? Or — dear god, please — could he be voicing Rocket Raccoon? Playing the Kingpin in Daredevil 2.0? Black Bolt?
