Michelle Obama signs up for Instagram
Say what you want about her husband’s politics, but it’s nearly impossible to deny the fact that First Lady Michelle Obama is seriously a whole bunch of awesomeness. Besides trying to rid the country of childhood obesity, she is also casual friends with George Clooney, makes us laugh, moves her mother into the White House, wears the classiest clothes (J. Crew thanks you for your service) and rocks haircuts like no other.
And if that wasn’t enough, everyone’s favorite Obama (after Malia and Sasha, of course), has decided to bless us mere plebeians with her very own Instagram.
Instagram.com/michelleobama has only two photos and one video so far, just enough to leave us wanting more. In Africa with her two daughters, Michelle Obama looks oh-so-perfect visiting a school in Dakar. Her first post? A photo of her and 14-year-old Malia — also known as the person that I want to be reincarnated as — smiling with a group of schoolgirls.
Her caption reads “My first instagram! So inspired and so impressed by these extraordinary young women. -mo #FLOTUSinAfrica”
Welcome, Mrs. Obama, First Lady of the United States and owner of our hearts, to the site that’s much better than Twitter but still a notch below Facebook. And kudos to whoever it was on your team who came up with #FLOTUSinAfrica. Somewhere in Bravoland, Andy Cohen is trying to think of a way to use that on a Watch What Happens Live t-shirt. Fun fact: The “-mo” lets followers know when it’s actually her posting.
There’s also a photo of the FLOTUS speaking to the classroom of young women, along with the caption “You all are role models for my daughters, which is why I brought them here today – so that they could be inspired by you just like I am. – First Lady Michelle Obama at MLK Middle School in Dakar. #FLOTUSinAfrica. The video posted shows students performing a dance for the welcome ceremony.
Heart is melting, melting, melting and gone. I don’t know about you, and maybe it’s the combination of awesome First Lady + young schoolgirls + the Developing World, but I’m a sucker for things like this.
These photos will satisfy for now, but hopefully the FLOTUS posts again soon to help us all satiate our Mobama fix. How about a shot of you at the gym beating Mr. President at push-ups? Or a photo of the First Family having a barbeque? Anything will do, just please don’t resort to this. Or this. Or this.
