• Cillian Murphy, best known for his work with Christopher Nolan in Inception and the Dark Knight movies, has joined the cast of Ron Howard’s In the Heart of the Sea. Based on the Nathaniel Philbrick novel about the whale ship Essex, Murphy will play the role of Matthew Joy, the second mate aboard the doomed ship. Chris Hemsworth (Thor) also stars. Murphy is currently filming Transcendence, and recently wrapped Cry/Fly with Jennifer Connelly and Mélanie Laurent. [Deadline]

• Jason Schwartzman is branching out from his usual directors and teaming up with Tim Burton. The Moonrise Kingdom actor has joined the cast of Big Eyes, about Margaret and Walter Keane’s very public quarrel over the authorship of the famous big-eyed children paintings. He’ll play a San Francisco gallery owner. Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams are starring as the Keanes, alongside Krysten Ritter and Danny Huston. Schwartzman recently finished filming Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel. He can be seen next in the Tom Hanks film Saving Mr. Banks, which hits theaters on December 13. [THR]

• Sandra Bullock is no longer in talks to play Miss Hannigan in Annie. Sony will have to continue the hunt to find the right actress to take on the iconic role for Will Gluck‘s adaptation of the musical. [The Wrap]

• Sarah Lancaster (Chuck) has joined the cast of The Judge to play Robert Downey Jr.’s wife. The movie also stars Robert Duvall, Vera Farmiga, Billy Bob Thorton, Vincent D’Onofio, Dax Shepard, and Leighton Meester. [THR]
