In anticipation of Fast & Furious 6, I sat down one glorious Sunday afternoon to marathon the entire series. With a bottle of wine (okay, two), I made my way through The Fast and the Furious, 2 Fast 2 Furious, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, and Fast Five from approximately 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. (I took a few breaks). Here is where my head was at after nearly 10 hours of muscles, cars, and muscle cars.

1. The one that started it all…

Watching The Fast and The Furious for the first time in years brought me back to high school, where we’d put it on in my friend’s basement and rewind scenes just for fun. I fell in love then, and wished I could trade in my Ford Escort for something Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) would be proud to drive.

2. 2 Fast 2 Furious is funnier than I remembered.

When I saw 2 Fast in theaters, I spent most of the time listening to a different friend explain that nitrous oxide actually does not work the way the movie claims it does. (Who knew?) I left the theater disappointed. Upon re-examination, though, the addition of Tyrese — who replaced Vin Diesel as Brian’s (Paul Walker) partner/buddy/whatever-you-want-to-call-him — was masterful.

3. An entertainment journalist can still be surprised

Full disclosure: I had never seen Tokyo Drift before. I know, I know. How could I call myself a Fast junkie? I didn’t expect to like the third movie, which almost went straight to DVD, as much as I did. And I really didn’t expect to scream out loud at the end when Dom (Diesel) shows up to race the newly crowned drift king Sean (Lucas Black) in Tokyo. The movie has been out for seven years, and I somehow managed to avoid being spoiled. Miracles do happen!

4. Han is the best

Sung Kang rocks. I’m sad he — SPOILER ALERT — dies in Tokyo Drift. But happy to have him back for the three most recent installments.

5. How does Brian keep getting law enforcement jobs?

6. There is plenty of eye candy for the ladies

The first Fast fueled my crush on Vin Diesel. Five changed my allegiance to Han. But that doesn’t mean I can’t look at everyone else. And this series provides a lot to look at, which is never more apparent as when you watch one after another… after another… after another.

7. And plenty of eye candy for the men, too

8. The Rock sweats a lot

Just sayin’.

9. Your sister will be jealous

If she’s anything like my sister, that is. When I told her what I was doing, she texted, “Wish I was there.”

10. I can’t wait for Fast & Furious 6

If you’re reading this, I’m probably on my way to the theater right now. Now you’re jealous, aren’t you?
