Sony Pictures Entertainment has purchased the worldwide distribution rights to the Angry Birds animated 3D film. Rovio Entertainment, the creators of the game, will develop, finance, and produce the movie.

“Every studio in town would love to add Angry Birds to their slate,” said two chairmen of Sony Pictures Entertainment in a joint statement. “There are few titles out there that bring this kind of excitement, brand awareness and built-in audience to the table.”
