For a few days there, things weren’t looking so hot for The Beek.

His new sitcom project Friends with Better Lives wasn’t given a series order by CBS last week along with the rest of the network’s picked-up comedy pilots. Coming after the cancellation of his ABC comedy Don’t Trust the B—, we were starting to think next season would be utterly Beek-free. But now there’s this news: CBS has given the pilot a series greenlight.

Friends with Better Lives stars James Van Der Beek as a gynecologist trying to recover from his soon-to-be ex-wife’s infidelity. The show also stars Kevin Connolly, Brooklyn Decker, Rick Donald, Zoe Lister Jones, Majandra Delfino. Official logline: “A group of 30-something friends who each think the other has it better.” Legendary sitcom director James Burrows helmed the pilot.

Earlier today, CBS also picked up Reckless, a new drama starring Cam Gigandet and Anna Wood described as a “sultry legal show set in Charleston, South Carolina, where a gorgeous Yankee litigator and a Southern City Attorney struggle to hide their intense attraction while clashing over a police sex scandal.”
