CBS will air an unprecedented daytime tribute to Jeanne Cooper, the longtime star of The Young and the Restless who died on Wednesday.

On May 28, CBS will air a pre-taped episode featuring cast members, families and friends, who are expected to share their favorite memories of working with Cooper. Clips from Cooper’s recent interviews about the series’ 40th anniversary — not to mention classic scenes from her 39 years of working on Y&R — will also be included.

The special will air from 12:30-1:30 p.m. ET/11 a.m. to 12 p.m. PT.

“Jeanne Cooper was a legend and we want to give her the tribute she deserves,” said Angelica McDaniel, CBS’ head of daytime, in a statement. “The cast will honor their longtime friend, family member and co-worker in the greatest way possible, as we celebrate her life and vibrant spirit and share it with the audience loved her as much as we did.”

The cast and family members will gather on the Y&R set next week to shoot the episode.

Cooper joined the soap as matriarch Katherine Chancellor in 1973, its first year on the air.
