It was an emotional final week for one contestant who didn’t make it into the Top 3 on this week’s elimination show.

Amber Holcomb broke down before the end of her final song — Whitney Houston’s “I Believe In You and Me” — as a contestant on the Idol stage, making it clear this wasn’t one of those eliminations that comes as sweet relief.

“It was the video — the gone video gets me every person and then seeing me I was like oh, crap,” Holcomb said of the trigger that lead to tears — tearing up again as she remembered it.

Holcomb, the 19-year-old from Texas, has shown improvement all season and has expressed interest in acting and modeling. She said the first thing she was going to do when she got home was buy herself a treat.

“I deserve some shopping.”

Although it sounds like she has accumulated quite a wardrobe during her stay in LA, she was concerned about her packing situation.

“I’m just going to have a suitcase for my shoes.”

One thing she learned about herself as a performer is that she’s got moves.

“I can actually dance,” she said. “This time last year if you had asked me to go on stage and dance for two people I couldn’t do it, so watching myself and being like, ooh, that was cute when I did that — I didn’t know I could dance until the show.”

Tonight’s “Crazy In Love” featured choreography Amber enjoyed and she said she’s ready to put more dancing into her performances.

“It’s just the beginning.”

And indeed, Amber was already clutching the business card of someone who presumably wanted her to give ’em a call about her future.

Contestants Kree Harrison, Candice Glover and Angie Miller make up the Top 3, and will be heading home for the hero’s welcome.
