It’s pretty obvious that Miley Cyrus was not feeling shy when she posed for photographer Mario Testino for the cover story — titled “The Emancipation of Miley” — in the latest issue of V magazine.

Wearing lots of leather and spikes, Cyrus flashes parts of her bare back, buttocks and breasts. “The Emancipation of Miley” indeed.

Except… this isn’t the first time the former Disney princess has gone nearly nude for a controversial photo shoot.

In 2008 the then 15-year-old Cyrus appeared in Vanity Fair wearing nothing but a loosely draped sheet in one shot, and posing somewhat seductively with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, in another.

Initially, the Disney princess defended the Vanity Fair images, shot by celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz — “I think it’s really artsy. It wasn’t in a skanky way,” she said — but later issued a statement directed at her young fans that read, “I appreciate all the support of my fans and hope they understand that along the way I am going to make mistakes and I am not perfect. I never intended for any of this to happen, and I am truly sorry if I have disappointed anyone.”

Now 20 and fully free of her squeaky clean reputation, Cyrus’ latest batch of racy photos comes out just a month after she told Elle UK that she doesn’t need to get naked to get attention.

“A star is someone who doesn’t have to take her clothes off to be sexy because you naturally have star power,” she said. “I don’t want to be a glorified model. They just talk on stage and it’s all about their clothes – or lack of clothes.”
