Last month at WonderCon, Pacific Rim director Guillermo Del Toro treated the audience to some supersize monster-versus-robot action that was, as Charlie Day’s scientist says, “2,500 tons of awesome.” Now that had-to-be-there footage is packaged in a new trailer that is certain to whet the appetites of fans of old-school monster movies and special-effects extravaganzas.

The new trailer also serves as a more detailed introduction into the movie’s concept and plot, explaining the alien monsters’ intentions and the science behind the two-man Jaeger robots. Honestly, it’s a glorified version of something your 6-year-old invents in his backyard sandbox. But watching it play out on a giant canvas with Del Toro’s movie magic is truly something to look forward to seeing on a giant screen.
