• James Franco, Omar Sy (the breakout star of The Intouchables), and Kate Hudson are set to star in the thriller Good People. Franco has been circling the project since late November 2012. Based on Marcus Sakey’s 2009 novel, the story is about a young couple burdened with crippling debt. They think they’ve found an out when their downstairs neighbor dies and leaves $370,000 in cash just sitting around. Suddenly they begin to encounter all sorts of unsavory characters. Danish director Henrik Genz will be making his English-language debut with the film. The Millennium Films project is expected to begin production in London at the end of May. The original story, like most of Sakey’s novels, was set in Chicago. [Deadline]

• Oscar-nominee and Pitch Perfect lead Anna Kendrick is set to star in the psychological thriller The Voices, alongside Ryan Reynolds. Gemma Arterton (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters) has also joined the cast. In the film, Reynolds plays Jerry, a lonely bathtub factory worker with an evil talking cat and a kind talking dog. Persepolis author and director Marjane Satrapi is set to direct. [Deadline]

Avengers bad guy Tom Hiddleston is in early talks to play Eric Draven in a reboot of The Crow. Based on the comic book series, Brandon Lee originated the role for the big screen in the 1994 film version. According to the report, Hiddleston even did a “makeup test” of his own that he shared with producers to show his enthusiasm for the role. The British thespian can be seen next in Thor: The Dark World, and Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive with Tilda Swinton. [The Wrap]

• In an uncomfortable blending of Marvel characters, Hiddleston is also set to star alongside Captain America’s Hayley Atwell in the Spanish Civil War drama Close Enough. Both will play legendary war photographers, with Hiddleston as Robert Capa and Atwell as Gerda Toro. [Screen Daily]

• Naomi Watts is in talks to join Bill Murray, Melissa McCarthy, and Chris O’Dowd in St. Vincent De Van Nuys. She’d play a Russian prostitute who is very close with Murray’s character. [Deadline]

• Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal) just got a whole team of new cast members for The Salvation. Jonathan Pryce (Brazil), Eva Green (Casino Royale), and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Grey’s Anatomy) are joining the Kristian Levring (Fear Me Not) film. The 1870s-set Western tells the story of a settler seeking vengeance for the death of his family. After he succeeds, he has to deal with an angry gang leader and a corrupt town. [Deadline]

• There’s a new Coach and Mrs. in town. Jim Caviezel (Person of Interest) is set to star in the high school football film When the Game Stands Tall, about a once lousy Concord, Calif. team with epic turnaround and an eventual 151-game winning streak. He’ll play real life coach Bob Ladouceur and Laura Dern (Enlightened) will play his wife. The Shield’s Michael Chiklis will also star as Terry Eidson, the team assistant and defensive coordinator. Thomas Carter (Save the Last Dance) is set to direct. [The Wrap]

• English actress Ophelia Lovibond (Mr. Popper’s Penguins, No Strings Attached) has joined Guardians of the Galaxy in a highly secretive supporting role. The film is expected to begin production in June and aims for an August 1, 2014 release date. [THR]

• Renny Harlin (Cutthroat Island) added Spartacus star Liam McIntyre to his cast of Hercules 3D. The part of Hercules will be played by Twilight’s Kellan Lutz. McIntyre will play a young captain who serves with Hercules on the battlefield. In another case of Hollywood doubling up on ideas, this Millennium Entertainment film will compete with Paramount’s Dwayne Johnson Hercules pic. [THR]
