If Anne Frank had been alive today, her diary might have been devoted to Justin Bieber — at least that’s what the singer hopes.

Bieber visited the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam and, according to the museum’s Facebook page, left an interesting message in the guest book. “Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a Belieber,” the museum quoted Bieber as writing. (For the uninitiated, Beliebers are devotees of Bieber.)

Diary of a Young Girl, Frank’s account of hiding from the Nazis during World War II, has been a cornerstone of first-person historical documentation since it was published posthumously in 1947. The “Baby” and “Boyfriend” singer has most recently sparked headlines by posting a shirtless Twitpic after a fainting-related hospital stay, allegedly spitting in a neighbor’s face, attempting to smuggle a monkey across international lines, among other absurdities.

If the reports are true, does the heartthrob have any lower to go after this latest culturally insensitive and out-of-touch display? Never say never.
