The Lone Ranger might be a tough sell at first glance: It’s based on a minor, but beloved, 1950s TV serial, it co-stars Johnny Depp as a Native American, and the trailers — from what we’ve seen so far — are full of spectacle but little else.

All that aside, it’s one of Disney’s biggest films coming out this summer, and two very cool new character posters spotlight both Depp’s Tonto and Armie Hammer’s Lone Ranger.

The posters are hyperstylized, like they were run through an Instagram filter twice, but they give an appreciable amount of detail: You can see the cracks in the leather of The Lone Ranger’s mask and Hammer’s enviously even stubble, not to mention the individual threads on Tonto’s headscarf. (Fun fact: The headscarf is from Depp’s personal collection.) Why are there embers flickering along the bottom? Why not.

The Lone Ranger is due out in theaters on July 3.
