Yves Saint Laurent
First Marilyn Manson, now Courtney Love?
Last week, a leaked photo of what was thought to be a new Saint Laurent ad starring shock rocker Marilyn Manson sent the fashion industry into a frenzy. Turns out, it’s part of creative director Hedi Slimane’s Saint Laurent Music Project, a portrait series inspired by the relationship between rock icons and the legendary French fashion house.
New black-and-white photos of grunge queen Courtney Love, Sonic Youth frontwoman Kim Gordon and gothic rocker Ariel Pink — as well as the image of Manson that surfaced last week — have been posted on Dazed magazine’s website. Each subject styled themselves in clothing and accessories from the label.
Yves Saint Laurent — who founded his eponymous label in 1961 — was no stranger to the music scene. The designer dressed 70s icons like Marianne Faithfull and David Bowie, and outfitted Mick Jagger and Bianca Pérez Mora de Macias for their 1971 wedding.
