A couple days ago, my Entertainment Geekly co-host Jeff Jensen broke the news that Veronica Mars was staging a comeback from the TV graveyard, with creator Rob Thomas and star Kristen Bell raising $2 million on Kickstarter for a movie. They reached that fundraising goal in about three seconds, a potentially gamechanging moment for TV fans who still yearn for more of their favorite shows. (Carnivalé: Your chariot has arrived.) Jeff, a former Veronica Mars recapper, is understandably excited; I am a bit more skeptical.

In the new episode of Entertainment Geekly, I try to rain on the parade of all Veronica Mars fans. Then, Jeff stages an anti-cynicism intervention as we continue a conversation we started on Twitter about franchise movies, the power of nostalgia, the innocence of childhood, and the danger of cynicism. Spider-Man 3 gets a shout-out!
