This week’s cover meant a return trip to the Seven Kingdoms for photographer Ian Derry, who shot the Game of Thrones cast for EW last season. But there was one big difference: ”What we decided to do this time was shoot on the set,” Derry says. That gave him access to the show’s ”visually fantastic” scenery, housed in giant hangars in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The shoot brought together Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington, whose Daenerys and Jon Snow inhabit different corners of the Thrones universe. Despite their lack of shared screen time, the stars had an easy rapport, as this mischievous outtake attests. ”It wasn’t a deliberate thing,” explains Derry, ”but they’re playful people.”
