Rehearsals for the Oscars can be just as emotionally charged as the event itself — especially for previous winners returning to present awards to the next class of honorees. ”It does bring back a lot of memories,” said Octavia Spencer, who won Best Supporting Actress for The Help last year, and was practicing her presentation of the Supporting Actor award. ”I still feel like a princess. Only I don’t have to give back my glass slipper!”

During the three days leading up to the telecast, host Seth MacFarlane and a who’s who of famous faces kept the Dolby Theatre hopping as dance routines were rehearsed, camera moves readied, and jokes tested. Some presenters took the opportunity to scope out where they’d be seated on the big night. ”The hot section is over here!” Samuel L. Jackson declared from the stage, studying the names affixed to chairs in the audience. ”Why am I over there?!”
