With shows like The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural, the CW is home to hoards of rabid fanbases, but the network’s latest dark drama, Cult, delves into the world of extreme fandoms.

On the show, Matt Davis (The Vampire Diaries) plays journalist Jeff Sefton, a man whose search for his missing brother launches him into the world of a TV series called Cult (meta!). And as Jeff dives deeper into the show’s following — with help from the show’s production assistant Skye (Jessica Lucas) — he begins to uncover a possibly murderous cult modeled after the one on the show-within-the-show.

Robert Knepper (Prison Break) plays Roger Reeves, a man who portrays a nefarious cult leader character Billy Grimm on the fictional television series and Alona Tal (Supernatural) plays actress Marti Gerritsen, who is Reeves’s co-star.

Late last year, EW stopped by the set on a cold Vancouver night to chat with Knepper, Tal and Davis about the show, which premieres tonight.
