Can former SNL stars appear on Late Night every night? Host Jimmy Fallon is rarely better than when he’s gabbing with one of his old castmates about life at the sketch show — which sounds sort of like a giant, extended sleepover party for adults.

Case in point: Molly Shannon dropped by yesterday, ostensibly to talk about her children’s book (Tilly the Trickster, which looks pretty dang cute) and her guest spot on HBO’s Enlightened. But in the end, the plugs seemed sort of beside the point. Fallon and Shannon — whom he calls “pals” — mostly just spent 10 minutes gabbing about the dumb things they used to do to amuse each other during their SNL days. Watching the interview is sort of like eavesdropping on a private conversation, but not in a creepy way.
