Don’t feel bad if the name Maia Mitchell doesn’t ring a bell. The young actress is primarily known for her work on Australian TV (Mortified, Trapped). But that could change soon, as 19-year-old Mitchell seems primed for a breakout year in the U.S. Tonight she’ll guest star on Jessie, later this year she’ll star in the Disney Channel Original Movie Teen Beach Movie, and it was just announced that her show The Fosters, executive produced by Jennifer Lopez, has been picked up by ABC Family.

Take a look at this video as Mitchell introduces us to her family back home in Australia in this Disney ‘This is Who I Am’ clip.

On Jessie (8pm ET/PT), Mitchell will play a popular Australian actress named Shaylee Michaels, who Jessie gets her big break as a stunt double for in a movie. The two become friends but things get a little crazy when the movie’s director and Shaylee’s boyfriend, MCD (John DeLuca), asks Jessie out on a date.

In Teen Beach Movie, Maia stars as modern day surf girl McKenzie (“Mack”) who discovers the importance of believing in herself and following her true destiny when she is magically transported into a popular 1960s beach movie and must find their way back home.

The Fosters involves a “multi-ethnic family mix of foster and biological kids being raised by two moms,” according to the press release. The series will star Teri Polo (Meet the Parents), Sherri Saum (In Treatment) and Jake T. Austin (Wizards of Waverly Place), among others.
