'Last Man Standing' lures Jonathan Taylor Thomas
Looks like Tim Allen got the Home Improvement reunion that he’s (probably) been dying for! EW has learned that Jonathan Taylor Thomas — who played Tim Allen’s son Randy on the long-running ABC comedy — will guest star in a episode of Last Man Standing slated for March or April.
Thomas will play the manager of a high-end restaurant where Kristin Baxter (Amanda Fuller) applies for a job. So far, word is that Thomas is only booked for one episode of the ABC comedy — but Kristin who is Tim (Allen) Baxter’s daughter, is young and unmarried, and Thomas is a catch.
See where this could possibly go?
Thomas has been looking to jump back into Hollywood. In fact, the actor told EW in September of 2011 — when he and the other cast members from Home Improvement participated in EW’s Reunion’s issue — about his comeback hopes: “I’ve been going to school, and traveling quite a bit, getting to read a lot of books I’ve wanted to for quite some time. I think at this point, I’d eventually like to work behind the camera. That’s not to say I would never act again, I’m not quite sure to be honest. I still have a passion for TV and film could see myself working in it.”
Asked whether he’d do Last Man Standing, Thomas laughed and said, “We’ll see about that. I’m sure they have a lot of stories they want to get to.”
Thomas isn’t the first cast member from Home Improvement to do a stint on Last Man Standing. Earlier this season, Richard Karn (Al Borland) played an architect who designed Tim’s stores.
Last Man Standing has held up very well on Fridays. It’s tied for first place in the 8 p.m. timeslot in adults 18-49 (1.9/7) and averages 7.9 million viewers. It also has been outperforming its Malibu Country lead-out by 12% in adults 18-49 and by 8% in total viewers.
