The Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers will battle it out today at Super Bowl XLVII but back in November, it was Lucy Liu and Jonny Lee Miller’s Elementary that scored big when it was given the post-Bowl timeslot on CBS.

And judging by what they told us when EW hit the set late last year as they were filming the episode, they have no plans on wasting their gigantic lead-in. “[The episode] is like our [regular] show, except it has a lot more injected in it; it’s like our show but on steroids a little bit,” says Miller.

In the episode, airing tonight after the big game, Sherlock pursues prison escapee Martin Ennis (Terry Kinney), “a particularly nasty, vicious person,” who according to Miller, is “probably one of the worst [criminals] we’ve had.” Liu adds: “He’s willing to manipulate even his own family members to do what he needs to do and…he’s myopic about what he wants to do.”

Adding tension to the investigation is Kathryn Drummond (Kari Matchett), an FBI profiler who worked on Ennis’s case before his initial apprehension — and also has a history with Sherlock. “[There’s] sexual tension but not romantic,” jokes Miller.

Outside of the investigation, Watson is also facing a personal challenge, when she learns that she is facing eviction. And the outcome of that story, teases Liu, “will probably [affect] their relationship and their living situation right now.”

In all, says Miller, the hope is not to squander the massive opportunity the show has been given. And he’s confident they did exactly that. “There’s definitely been an injection of certain elements because you’ve got this audience, and there’s an intent to hook people in, but it’s still definitely our show.”
