Spider-Man’s latest foe — a horny Paul Giamatti.

The Sideways and John Adams actor is in talks to appear in The Amazing Spider-Man sequel as the bruising villain Rhino — a man who had armor and a ramming horn surgically grafted to his radiation-enhanced body to become an unstoppable fighting force.

If the deal, which was reported by Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter, goes through, Giamatti would play Aleksei Sytsevich, a Russian mafia thug who sees the Rhino experiment as his chance to rise in the ranks of the criminal underworld, despite his less-than-stellar intellect.

In the Marvel comics, one of Rhino’s first capers was to kidnap the astronaut son of newspaper editor J. Jonah Jameson and hold him for ransom.

Giamatti, who is currently starring in Hamlet onstage at his alma mater Yale, gave an interview to ShowBizSpy nearly two years ago saying he wanted the part: “I thought Rhino was the greatest thing when I was a little kid. It was a guy who was basically in this rhinoceros outfit and I always thought, ‘Why don’t they have The Rhino in one of their movies,’ but maybe The Rhino wasn’t that big of a deal for anybody but me. … If they ever go with The Rhino I would be ready and waiting.”

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are set to return for the Spider-Man follow-up, with The Descendants’ actress Shailene Woodley taking on the role of Mary Jane Watson and Chronicle‘s Dane Dehaan as Harry Osborne, who would go on to become the Green Goblin. Jamie Foxx has signed on to play another villain — Electro.

All these bad guys means Peter Parker better get used to his spider-sense tingling.
