Chris Brown/Frank Ocean incident unlikely to affect Grammys
Today it felt a little like deja vu all over again. Some time last night or early this morning, Brown was involved in yet another physical altercation with yet another centerpiece of the Grammy Awards (which are just under two weeks away).
Based on various reports, the incident between Brown and Frank Ocean was not nearly as disastrous as the one with Rihanna, but it still left Ocean with a cut finger and Brown with another mark on his image. So will another violent altercation effect his presence at music’s biggest night? The incident will not have an impact on the show’s scheduled performances, according to a source at CBS and another working with NARAS. Those performances are still under wraps, however, and can change at any time—just as they did back in 2009 when Justin Timberlake suggested a duet with Al Green to fill the void left by Rhianna’s absence. That made Timberlake a favorite of the production team and Recording Academy officials, and this year there’s even talk that he might get the show’s coveted opening performance slot.Neither Brown nor Ocean have been announced as Grammy performers, though they are both nominees. But in tweeting about his Brown-related injury, Ocean tipped his hand, noting that the cut on his finger would affect his ability to perform at the ceremony.Rumors about a duet between Brown and Rihanna have been swirling since the latter was announced as part of the first wave of performers a few weeks back, though there have been no indications of that rumor’s validity. The confirmed list of Grammy performers, all of whom will take the stage on Sunday, February 10, includes Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Jack White, fun., the Black Keys, Mumford & Sons, the Lumineers, Dierks Bentley & Miranda Lambert, and Ed Sheeran & Elton John.Read More on EW.com:
