the full story of Oz doesn’t begin and end on the Yellow Brick Road with Dorothy and her variously deficient companions, but rather encompasses an entire universe created by L. Frank Baum in his many novels. So fans of the books — including star Mila Kunis — will be glad to hear that Sam Raimi’s big-budget prequel draws as much of its inspiration from the original texts as from the 1939 MGM classic. ”I was a huge fan of the Wizard of Oz novel. It was the first big book I read in the States,” says the actress, who moved from Ukraine when she was 7 and who plays the witch Theodora opposite James Franco’s wizard-in-the-making. ”And then the second book I read was the sequel.”
